Acoustic Music with Taste
Hank Sable and Nora Tucker share favorite songs from the rock, blues
and folk genres with their audiences. Friends and fans have come out
to hear Hank and Nora play music for a number of years. Both Nora
and Hank sing lead and harmony, with Hank on lead guitar and Nora on
rhythm. Their material ranges from rock to blues, from folk to
country with songs by John Fogerty, Alison Krauss, Tom Petty, and
Lennon and McCartney. Hank brings strong original numbers to the
mix.
Hank and Nora regularly play for the Downtown Neighborhood
Association at their monthly meetings. In 2007, they were regulars
on the Central BBQ patio. Last year also marked the second
appearance with Joyce Cobb at an annual patio concert to benefit
Friends for Life.
Nora Tucker moved to Memphis in 1982. As a member of The Touchtones
from 1986-1990, she covered material by Bonnie Raitt, The
Pretenders, soul tunes from Motown and Stax, and originals by band
members. In 1990 she was often a vocalist for Gregg Hansen and the
American Reggae Band. Her band, Nora Burns & Lucky Strike, returned
to an eclectic mix of rock, blues, and band originals. In April of
2006 she became one of the original singing tour guides for Backbeat
Tours. Each guide provides musical history and examples of songs
relating to Memphis music. The Hound Dog tour is all Elvis, so Nora
can perform a wealth of rock ’n’ roll and Memphis material.
Hank Sable is originally from Philadelphia, PA and moved from
Nashville to Memphis in 1993. He is a multi-instrumentalist and
musical instrument dealer specializing in vintage guitars. Hank
recorded five CDs at Archer Records, two with Becc Lester on vocals.
He is a member of the band Cooley’s House featuring Brenda
Patterson. Hank volunteers his time playing instrumental guitar at
West Clinic. He also plays violin and regularly sits in with Joyce
Cobb at Bosco’s Sunday brunch.
